Interviewed by Yahoo Sports!

For the first time ever, I was interviewed by a mainstream media outlet as a representative of AMAZN HQ. For AAPIHM, one of Yahoo Sports’ reporters is working on a story about the underrepresentation of Asian Americans in sports. He reached out to me to get my perspective on things and we talked for about an hour.

It’s really cool how in some instances, I can now be seen as an ‘expert’ interview. In a space that has been so seldomly investigated, I’ve been able to establish myself as one of the most knowledgeable about the Asian American sporting community. I think it’s safe to say that within this past year and change, I’ve probably done more original reporting on the community than anyone has ever done. It’s both fulfilling and extremely sad. Sad because that shows how little coverage there’s been on such a vast and diverse group of people.

It’s been a pleasure seeing the increase in Asian American sports coverage this month. For example, a timeline of Asian American sports like this is so, so great to see. Reporters are going back in time to help tell the stories that were silenced for decades.

At a time where Asian American issues and culture are at the forefront of American media in a way it’s never been before, it’s small victories like this that are showing the change that is coming. That finally, people are realizing the value of telling our stories. Whether it be a societal value or a literal monetary value, whatever the incentive may be, at least we are being heard. People are asking about us for what feels like the first time.

The invisibility cloak is fading away.
